Sisk+Corus Modular Construction (Sisk+Corus), the UK's first provider of end-to-end modular construction solutions to the hotel and student accommodation sectors, has secured a multi-million pound contract to build a 198-bedroom hotel in Glasgow city centre for innovative hotel operator citizenM.
Work on the hotel commenced at the end of June, and the combined expertise of Sisk's in-depth hotel market knowledge and Corus' automotive-style production efficiencies will see the scheme delivered in just 44 weeks using proven off-site construction technology. Located next to the landmark Theatre Royal, the completed hotel is conveniently located for travellers visiting the city centre.
This is the first contract win secured by Sisk+Corus on the back of John Sisk & Son Ltd and Corus Living Solutions having recently announced their intention to form an alliance. Effectively bringing together two construction industry leaders' proven factory product and build services, Sisk+Corus offers clients a turnkey solution using innovative modular solutions.
With ambitions for Europe-wide expansion, Glasgow is citizenM’s third hotel – the concept behind the chain being to provide the modern day traveller, who has come to expect value and stylish design from a hotel, with affordable luxury. Realising the extent of the operator’s ambition, the Glasgow scheme has been designed by the award winning Concrete Architectural Associates who have incorporated full height windows set in dark granite along with an exterior artwork installation to create its distinctive concept.
Richard Jones, General Manager, Corus Living Solutions comments: "The citizenM win illustrates the enhanced value that Sisk+Corus can deliver to stakeholders across the supply chain.
"Providing a solution that is designed, manufactured and constructed in the UK, Sisk+Corus also factors in cost and programme reductions to help minimise the risk associated with any construction programme and facilitates a quicker return on investment whilst guaranteeing standards. This is imperative for clients in the budget hotel market where delivery performance ultimately determines profitability."
Robin Herron, Pre-Construction Director, John Sisk & Son Ltd added: "citizenM is an innovator in the hotel industry and has come to the market with a refreshing product responding to the needs of its target market, delivering affordable luxury. Sisk+Corus has done the same, offering a high quality, reliable and affordable solution.
"For citizenM, the benefits of optimised modular construction were clear from the initial design stage down to the projected final delivery, bringing the lowest project cost, earlier completion, improved quality and building performance."
