New Build Programme Gathers Pace

New foundations continue to be laid in North Lanarkshire as part of their multi-million pound house building programme and plans are in place for the project to be rolled out to a further three sites in Airdrie, Wishaw and Cumbernauld.

As the £31m programme gathers pace, new affordable homes are planned for the sites of Clarkston Primary School, Airdrie (19 homes), Cambusnethan Primary School, Wishaw (20 homes) and North Road, Cumbernauld (25 homes).

Councillor Barry McCulloch, Convener of the Housing and Social Work Services Committee is pleased with the progress being made.

He said: "Over the summer, the first sod of our new housebuilding programme was cut at the site in Holytown, where 20 new homes will be delivered by contractor Lovell.

"And it's great to see the next phase of the project taking shape. We're investing millions in new homes and we're keen to add to our plans. Already we've been successful in bidding for support from the Scottish Government and we're submitting a further bid at the end of this month."

It is proposed that the next phase of the new build programme will be delivered through a Framework Agreement involving three contractors. Tender documents are currently being prepared to appoint the contractors who will be part of the framework and who will take forward the next three sites at Clarkston, Cambusnethan and Cumbernauld.

It is hoped the tendering process will be concluded by the end of the year.
