Highway Management Group (HMG), delivering the M80 Stepps to Haggs project on behalf of Transport Scotland, will shortly begin work to demolish and rebuild Glenview Avenue Bridge which crosses the A80 at Haggs and Banknock.
The work will require the A80 to be reduced to one lane in each direction adjacent to the Haggs and Banknock interchange. The work has been planned to minimise any delay, however some delays are expected for drivers on the A80, M876 and M80 approaches. Drivers are advised to plan their journeys in advance and leave plenty of time.
In order to minimise any disruption caused the work will be carried out in two phases over the weekend of Friday 14th August to Monday 17th August and Friday 21st August to Monday 24th August, starting at 2000 hrs and ending at 0600 hrs both weekends.
From Monday 10 August, local residents accessing the residential area of Glenview will no longer be able to travel across the bridge and will therefore be diverted onto local roads until completion of the new bridge in March 2010.
Hugh O'Connor, HMG General Manager, said "We appreciate these works may cause some delays and inconvenience particularly at peak periods and we thank road users for their patience while we carry out these essential works."
The A80 is an essential part of the trunk road network in central Scotland and one of the most heavily used. This project will complete the missing gap between Stirling and Glasgow and upon completion will deliver significant economic and safety benefits both locally and Scotland-wide.
