Doors By Design have just opened their new showroom DoorLab at their impressive production facility at Phoenix Retail Park, Paisley.
The showroom is the brainchild of Doors By Design’s Commercial Director Barbara Fraser and brings their high quality doors to the residential market having spent the last decade supplying mainly for commercial projects.
"DoorLab provides a showcase for innovations in design, aesthetics and performance in architectural doorsets," said Barbara.
The new showroom has a comprehensive selection of the company's products displaying doorsets in contemporary and traditional styles, timber finishings and a veneered cubicle system.
Products from a dozen DoorLab partners are also on display including funky portholes and signage from Philip Watts Design, sliding door gear from Hafele, bespoke laminate from Formica, flooring from Surface Plus, glass from Intaglio and exclusive handles from Valli & Valli.
The entrance door to the showroom also features the Safehinge system which is being widely specified for school projects to avoid potential finger trap situations.
Architects are encouraged to visit the showroom where they can view materials, discuss design details and make selections when specifying doorsets.
Contractors are also welcome to visit to clarify details for orders, or to bring clients in to make design and material choices.
Doors By Design have built a reputation as Scotland’s leading manufacturer of performance doorsets since Barbara started the company eleven years ago with just 4 staff.
The company now employs 45 highly trained staff at their state-of-the-art factory at Paisley where they've invested in world class machinery. This is apparent in the quality of work the company produces and the complexity of contracts they undertake.
An impressive project list includes hotels, sports centres, hospitals, offices, schools and high-end residential projects.
Barbara said: "University contracts form a sizable chunk of our order book – I think we've probably now supplied doors to every college and university in Scotland.
"We've gained a lot of our work through referrals and specifications, and we're able to be more flexible with our customers’ specification and delivery requirements than our larger English competitors."
Another area where Doors By Design have recently excelled has been in Church projects.
"I'm very proud to be involved in two recent church contracts," added Barbara.
"Working closely with Lee Boyd Architects and Clark Contracts, we supplied oak doorsets for the Grade A listed St Paul’s & St George’s Church, which has just won the Edinburgh Architectural Association Building of the Year Award 2009.
"Another stunning project was St George’s Tron Parish Church in Glasgow’s Buchanan Street where we supplied 250 cherry veneered panels and matching cherry doorsets. We worked with CRGP and McKean on this project, and Doors By Design’s panels provide the main design feature of the church, which looks spectacular."
