Taycare, a healthcare joint venture led by Robertson Capital Projects (RCP) working with partner Morgan Sindall Investments (MSI), has been named preferred bidder for the £100m Tayside Mental Health Developments project.
Taycare will deliver the work on behalf of NHS Tayside and the North of Scotland Planning Group and has appointed a supply chain including building contractor Morgan Ashurst who will deliver the project design and build requirements and Robertson FM who will provide a range of hard facilities management services during the 30 year life of the contract.
The project will provide new mental healthcare facilities at Murray Royal Hospital in Perth and Stracathro Hospital in Brechin and will provide a range of inpatient accommodation covering General Adult Psychiatry, Psychiatry of Old Age, Low Secure Care Services and Medium Secure Services.
In total, 183 bed spaces will be created at Murray Royal Hospital, with an additional 52 at Stracathro Hospital. Both hospitals will be predominantly single storey new build accommodation set in healthcare campus style environments, designed appropriate to the needs of clinical users and their families.
The project is RCP's twentieth success and takes the total capital value of its portfolio to over £1billion.
Work at both hospitals is due to commence in 2010 - with both facilities opened by early 2012.
This is the first healthcare project in Scotland to be procured using the NPD (Non Profit Distributing) form of procurement more usually associated with the PPP education market.
Robertson executive chairman Bill Robertson said: "Robertson has a wealth of experience in the design, finance and operation of primary care facilities throughout the UK. Through Taycare the company will have a continuing involvement with the client over the concession period together with Robertson FM who will provide management services over the same period.
"We now look forward to working closely with NHS Tayside; our JV partner; supply chain and funders to develop modern facilities that will deliver a step change in the provision of mental healthcare for the local area."
