T.I. Dynamic Facades Makes A Reservation At The Malmaison

T.I. Dynamic Facades' Aerolite façade system has been installed at the new Malmaison Hotel in Aberdeen.

Specified to match the Granite stone on the original parts of the C-listed building, the lightweight Aerolite Granite facade system creates the appearance of solid stone. Formerly the famous Queen's Hotel, the Malmaison Hotel Aberdeen building was given a luxury refurbishment, blending period features of the original hotel with modern touches.

A boutique hotel, the Malmaison Hotel Aberdeen has 80 guest rooms, including bedrooms with private terraces and 13 themed suites. As the original building had been extended to the rear, Aerolite Granite was specified to ensure the external colour and finish of the new build extension complemented the Aberdeen Granite stone on the existing structure.

Manufacturing the soffits, corners and copings of the Aerolite Granite system with a 40mm return also helped to recreate the impression of traditional solid stone cladding.

Comprising 15mm thick granite, bonded to a high strength fibre reinforced epoxy resin, the lightweight Aerolite panels were specified in sizes ranging from 600mm in width x 300mm in length to 1,200mm in width x 600mm in length.

The Aerolite Granite panels were fixed onto a BWM horizontal rail, supported by a vertical sub-frame. A highly adaptable carrier system, the BWM carrier is a horizontal concealed anchorage assembly, featuring a hidden fixing mechanism to preserve the clean aesthetics of the building.

Philip Harwood, technical director, T.I. Dynamic Facades, said: "The Malmaison Hotel Aberdeen highlights how new stone technology, such as the Aerolite Granite system, can be used to complement traditional facades.

"Working within the dimensions and aesthetics of the existing Aberdeen Granite façade, we were able to create a cost effective solution to complete the new areas of the building, while maintaining the original appearance and character of the hotel."
