The event was delivered by Dr Iain Cameron and Billy Hare and focussed on three main themes: Safety managership and leadership, CDM Regulations 2007 and safe working at height.
Dr Cameron welcomed the 37 attendees who represented a wide range of organisations
including South Lanarkshire Council, Clackmannanshire Council, Renfrewshire Council,

Strathclyde Police, Strathclyde Fire & Rescue, Scottish Water, Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow and BEAR Scotland.
The importance of a strong and visible leadership was stressed and differentiated from
safety management. An enthusiastic leader acting as a role model to others is a key factor in achieving a safer environment. Delegates were asked to select and subsequently carry out one new and innovative safety procedure in order to show their commitment to safety leadership and management. Dr Cameron reminded attendees that no matter how much paperwork is carried out, it is always better to "go and have a look for yourself". This event is the first of a series of Health and Safety workshops to be held by the Scottish Construction Centre over the next few months across Scotland. For more information contact 0845 863 0026.
