A paint manufacturer's expert specification services have been utilised in the award-winning renovation of St Mary's, a 19th century church in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire.
As part of the project, which was recently awarded 'Painting Project of the Year' by the Scottish Decorators Federation (SDF), Crown Paints developed a detailed colour and paint specification to be realised through its range of coatings.
The refurbishment of St Mary's Church was completed by local painting contractor, Dumbreck Decorators.
Acknowledging the complexities and exacting requirements of the project, Brendan Keenan of Dumbreck Decorators said: Unusually, the ornate ceilings within the church did not require re-painting; this meant the colours selected for the walls needed to match the existing coatings perfectly.
"It was also critical that the coatings selected offer excellent durability for this high use area. To make sure the finished result fulfilled these requirements, we wanted to work with a manufacturer who could offer specialist advice in developing an effective decorative scheme."
During the tendering process, the paint manufacturer's Colour Service developed six detailed colour schemes, each designed to complement and accentuate the ceiling's design and architecture. The company's expert specification team also completed a thorough analysis of the building's surfaces, including examination of existing coatings used and quality of the underlying substrates.
Mr Keenan said following the success of St Mary's Church, Dumbreck Decorators has already begun work on another redecoration project with the paint manufacturer.
