Scottish Ministers have agreed that Transport Scotland non-executive directors Dr Iain Docherty and Dr Jacqueline Redmond are to retain their positions on the board of the agency for a further 18 months.

The pair were initially appointed to the Transport Scotland board in May and June 2006 respectively for a period of three years and have accepted an invitation to extend their service to Transport Scotland until 2010.

Transport Scotland Chief Executive David Middleton said: "Both Dr Docherty and Dr Redmond have proved themselves to be hard-working and committed.

"Dr Redmond has considerable experience in utility and infrastructure businesses and in risk management, which has been extremely useful to the board.

"Dr Docherty has wide and relevant knowledge of transport systems from both an academic and a practical point of view.

"They have brought relevant wider experience to the board and make an effective contribution across the whole range of the board's work. I am pleased both will continue to share their expertise for a further 18 months."

Dr Docherty is a Senior Lecturer and Director of MBA Programmes at the School of Business and Management, University of Glasgow. He also acts as an adviser on strategic policy issues to a range of private sector, governmental and other organisations.

Dr Redmond has recently taken up an appointment with Shell International's Gas and Power business, focusing on Global LNG Strategy. Prior to this, she spent 12 years with ScottishPower, latterly holding the position of Director of Corporate Strategy and Planning.
