Morrison Construction, part of the Galliford Try group, has secured a £4.6m contract with The Highland Council to redevelop the sports facilities at Lochaber High School, Fort William.
The first phase of a three phase development will involve the construction of a new sports wing that will provide first class indoor sports facilities, including a four-court sports hall, gymnasium, fitness suite, drama studio and new changing rooms.
As part of the development, a separate entrance to the 2,500 sq m complex will be created which will include landscaping and an external performance venue which will be designed in consultation with pupils.
The building has been designed to use low carbon technology for heating and ventilation, in line with the client's, The Highland Council, commitment to sustainability.
Donald McLachlan, operations director for Morrison Construction, said: "We look forward to working with The Highland Council on the delivery of this contract which is a major step forward in terms of community and recreation facilities for the residents of Fort William and beyond.
"With the Commonwealth Games coming to Glasgow in 2014, I hope that we might even see some of those gaining the benefit of these state of the art facilities going on to represent their country in a few years time."
The sports facility is set to open in October 2010.
