The £125,000 project means the Hillfoots play park is now more accessible to families all year round.
Extensive consultation on the improvement plan was held last year. The old facilities included a boating pond and paddling pool which could only be used for a maximum of eight weeks during the summer and often fell victim to bad weather.
The feedback received was built into the improvement designs, the key feature of which is a 6m high, four mast climber net.

The new facilities, which are already being enjoyed by local youngsters, make better use of the space available.
The new play park also features trampolines, a tractor tyre swing, swings, sand play and three water play features.
Councillor Carrick, the Council's Sustainability Portfolio Holder, said: "I'm delighted to officially open this fantastic new play park. As well as being enjoyed by children from the Hillfoots, I think these excellent facilities will become a must-visit destination for families from further afield.
"The improvements that have been made make it a more interesting, welcoming and fun environment for youngsters and this has already been shown by the large numbers of families who have been visiting the park since it reopened earlier this month."
The new play park was designed and installed by the Council's Land Services.
