IET Scotland To Host Project Management Taster

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is running a life skills workshop for professional engineers, which aims to help them to take the first step to project management.

The workshop takes place on 7 April at the Satrosphere Science Centre, Aberdeen.

The Goal Directed Projecting Management workshop will look at the traditional tasks of planning, organising and controlling. The two-hour workshop will also cover the benefits of effective project management and will give advice on how to get going - from start to finish.

At the end of the session, participants will be able to identify the scope and the purpose of a project and will have developed skills in:
  • Defining complex goals in terms of people, systems and organisation
  • Identifying the intermediate goals in the form of 'project milestones'
  • Pinpointing how the work will be shared between those who are responsible for managing the project overall
  • Knowing who is responsible for ensuring that each individual milestone is achieved
Kenneth Laing of the IET Scotland North Local Network said: "All engineers carry out projects whether or not they are called project managers. This workshop will be a good introduction to project management for engineers in all walks of life."

This workshop is free of change but prior registration is required. IET Members can register on-line at www.theiet.org/local/uk/scotland/north/proj-mgmt.cfm
