Youngsters in the east end of Glasgow have had the chance to time travel through housing eras thanks to Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) and Milnbank Housing Association.
Two primary schools - Haghill Park and Alexandra Parade - took part in a series of lessons under the banner "Housing and My Community" and 70 pupils from three primary seven classes were able to visit a new build development at Corsock Street designed by Grant Murray Architects.
The children were also given the opportunity to visit and meet staff from Milnbank Housing Association and Milnbank Local Housing Organisation (LHO) which manages homes in the area on behalf of GHA.
Pupils discussed the ways in which dynamic cities like Glasgow change over time, they learned about green issues from George Chalmers of Resource Efficiency Management and they toured recent housing developments in the east end. They even learned about post war housing planning and the growth of new towns and estates.
Ms Shelagh Delahunt, Head Teacher of Haghill Park Primary School said: "The project was a great success as it helped our pupils understand more about the community in which they live and how Dennistoun has changed over time. It became clear to them how much of an impact GHA and Milnbank Housing Association have had on their neighbourhoods."
Ms Val McCaffery, Depute Head Teacher of Alexandra Parade Primary School added: "It was a fantastic opportunity for the pupils to visit Milnbank LHO and Milnbank Housing Association and see the work that is being done by staff there and how it relates to their communities. We are hopeful that we can repeat the project soon."
