Parents of the new primary school to be built to serve the eastern part of Dunfermline will be asked to consider naming it the Andrew Carnegie Primary School, as work continues to ensure the virtual school at Inverkeithing is ready for pupils.

Proposing the honour be given to Carnegie, Chair of the Education and Children's Services Committee, Councillor Douglas Chapman said: "We will be asking the new parent council to suggest a name for the new school. However, I would like to think that as Andrew Carnegie has such strong links to Dunfermline and made an internationally recognised contribution to education, his name would be a serious contender."


Referring to plans for the new school building in Dunfermline, Cllr Chapman said: "We are now looking closely at three sites in North East Dunfermline and a report on these will come to the Education Committee in April. From there we will enter into a statutory consultation with parents over the catchment area and then we will be pushing on with the £10.5m investment in the new school."
