As work progresses on the new £6.2m Seaview Primary School in Monifieth, Angus council's Corporate Services Committee agreed at its meeting on December 4 that the surplus land created by the development will be advertised for sale on the open market in the near future.

The committee heard that the building is progressing well on site and is due to be complete ready for the new term starting in August 2009.

Corporate Services vice-convener John Whyte welcomed the positive news and commented: "The development has brought about the identification of land surplus to educational requirements, including the listed building which currently houses the nursery, and this will offer up the opportunity for further development in Monifieth."


The school contains 14 classes and associated nursery with an additional special needs unit. The building has activity spaces between classes for greater teaching opportunities and flexibility. To maximise building use, the school has been designed to provide community facilities within class time and further areas are available outwith normal school hours.

The building makes use of natural ventilation and lighting, controlled to provide an optimum teaching and healthy environment for both the staff and pupils.

Councillor Whyte added: "The new school has a modern user friendly design and is proceeding to the projected budget and programme."
