CIAT Make History In Hong Kong

The Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) made history by being the first British professional construction industry Institute to hold its AGM in Hong Kong.

The momentous occasion took place at the Harbour Plaza Hotel in Kowloon on 22 November with CIAT members gathering from across the world to discuss the business of the day. Not only was this a first for the industry, but also for the Institute.

CIAT President, Mark Kennett and senior Members from the Institute also attended a number of meetings with Hong Kong dignitaries and universities including a reception with the RIBA and fellow architectural professions including the Hong Kong Institute of Architects.

The week of events culminated with the President’s Annual Dinner Dance, which was a 'night to remember' full of Chinese and western traditions with networking between CIAT members and industry professionals from the UK, Hong Kong and China.

Mark Kennett PCIAT said: "The week in Hong Kong was not only a historic one for the Institute but also an important one for the recognition of our members and the Architectural Technology discipline.

"A number of new links and working relationships were forged during our meetings and exciting times are ahead for our members based in Hong Kong and the acknowledgement of their work. On behalf of all the members, I would like to thank the people of Hong Kong for their hospitality and warm welcome during our time there."

CIAT addressed the possible environmental impact of the visit by supporting Practical Action, a charity working to reduce carbon in the developing world. They were chosen as they specifically help communities towards low impact technological solutions.

The event was sponsored by Autodesk and the Quinn Group.
