Craigmillar will be a land of adventure with the launch of a high-flying new play area tomorrow. The £100,000 Jubilee Play Park is the first new play park created in Craigmillar for many years and will become part of the attractions at Craigmillar Castle Country Park.
Cllr Edie said: "This superbly designed adventure play area is a spectacular addition to Craigmillar Castle Country Park and I'm sure that young people will come here for years to come and have many hours of fun.
"We are committed to making Edinburgh's parks accessible and enjoyable places for people of all ages and this fantastic new facility will appeal to children from all over the city and beyond."
The large net climbing structure with slides is the biggest in Scotland and is designed for children and young people aged eight and over. The structures tower up into the trees with high level walkways, nets, hammocks and swing ropes, all adding to the wow factor for children.
Jubilee - designed by the Council's play designers - is just five minutes walk from housing at Craigmillar Castle Avenue. Its green design reduces the impact on the environment by using a grass mound instead of a fence. Colours within the design blend the structure into the woodland setting.
As many as 200 children are expected to attend throughout the day and help will come from Senior Leaders (aged 16 to 17) from Castlebrae High School who volunteer to help out with sporting activities at Castleview Primary.
