David Burke has been appointed as Executive Director of Housing and Community Care at Perth & Kinross Council.
David has been Depute Director of the service for the last four-and-a-half years, during which time he has also held the post of Chief Social Worker.
He will take over from current Executive Director Dave Roberts, who will retire in the new year.
Since joining Perth & Kinross Council, David has played a leading and specialist role in developing and improving services across Housing and Community Care.
He began his career in Social Work in Glasgow in 1975, working in many of the city's housing schemes. David became an Area Manager in 1989 and since then has worked in a range of locations, including three years in Argyll. As Manager of Social Work Operations with West Dunbartonshire since 1999, David had responsibility for both Child Care and Community Care.
Council Leader, Councillor Ian Miller, said: "I am delighted for David and congratulate him on his appointment. He has already proved to be an excellent asset to the Council and I look forward to working with him as Executive Director.
"In his time in Perth and Kinross David has made a major contribution to improvements in Social Work and has raised the profile of the service within the Council. In addition he has also helped drive forward the Council's corporate agenda, helping us to realise our vision as a local authority.
"He has demonstrated that he has the drive, experience and skills to ensure that we will continue to build on our already excellent services across Housing and Community Care."
As with all posts of Executive Director, the appointment was made by the Council's Appointments Sub Committee which is chaired by the Leader of the Council and includes elected members from each of the political parties represented on Perth & Kinross Council, together with the Chief Executive. The panel was assisted by professional advisers.
