Lovell has been chosen by Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) to carry out modernisation work worth £5.2m to blocks of flats in the Bridgeton and Tollcross areas of Glasgow.
The company has been awarded two contracts, together worth £4.3m by GHA, to upgrade a total of 21 blocks of flats between three- and five-storeys high in Bridgeton in Glasgow's East End.
The first part of the Bridgeton scheme is a six-month project set to start in early 2009 which will see Lovell install an insulated render system and new guttering at five blocks. In April 2009, Lovell will begin installing the insulated render system at 16 blocks of flats with the work set to take 12 months to complete. In both parts of work, Lovell will also carry out roof repairs where needed.
In addition, Lovell has been awarded a £908,000 contract by Glasgow Housing Assocation to install new roofs, carry out roof repairs and install insulated render at flats in the Tollcross area for GHA. Work on the six-month scheme is set to start in early 2009.
The Lovell resident liaison team will play a key role in the delivery of the modernisation work. Lovell resident liaison officers will work closely with residents, who will remain in their homes as the improvements go ahead, to ensure that they are kept informed and that the work goes smoothly.
The modernisation work has been awarded to Lovell as part of the company's four-year framework agreement with GHA to upgrade its housing stock.
"We are proud to be helping deliver these important improvements for Glasgow residents through our partnership with GHA," said Lovell regional director Alan Taylor.
Martin Armstrong, GHA's executive director of housing and customer services said: "We are committed to delivering better homes and a better quality of life to GHA tenants. The multimillion pound external improvements in Bridgeton and Tollcross will not only give tenants and their families warm, dry and comfortable homes - they will also insulate the properties, reducing tenants’ heating bills whilst helping the environment."
