Argyll and Bute Council are launching a public consultation on a plan which will guide the future development and use of Loch Fyne.
The Loch Fyne Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) plan has been drafted in response to the transfer of planning powers over aquaculture from the Crown Estate to the local authority. It will provide a framework to better regulate and promote the development of aquaculture so that it reflects community views, avoids conflict with other water users and respects sustainability.
Councillor Robert Macintyre, Spokesperson for Economy, Environment and Rural Affairs for Argyll and Bute Council said: "This consultation is aimed at anyone who may have an interest in Loch Fyne and its surrounding coast. This includes local users of the area, community members, local and national organisations, local and national industry and the general public. The council is wanting to collect views information and comments on the plan before a final draft is produced."
During the consultation, public meetings will be held on Lochgilphead and Strachur so that people can hear about the plan and have their questions answered. The meeting in Lochgilphead will be held in the Lochgilphead Community Centre at 19.00 on 11 November and the meeting in Strachur will be held at the Memorial Hall at 19.00 on 13 November.
The 8 week consultation starts on Friday 24 October and ends on Friday 19 December. You can get CD or paper copies of the plan by contacting the Marine and Coastal Development Unit at Lorn House, Albany Street, Oban PA34 4AR, or phone 01631 567972.
