Fife Council's newly refurbished St David's Day Care Centre was officially opened today by Councillor William Sangster. The centre has benefited from £118k investment to modernise the day care facility.
Louise Bell, Older People's Service, Social Work Service welcomed visitors to the event: "I am delighted to be able to showcase the new resources now available. Day care is a valuable service in supporting vulnerable people to live in their own homes for as long as they wish and St David's plays an important role in St Andrews for older people."
Pam Ewart, Unit Manager guided people around the centre: "We are delighted with the new facilities - they have made a huge difference to the people who come here each day. The refurbishment has meant that we are now able to make better use of the space that we have. We can now section the space off and we have a designated quiet room.
"The whole centre has been designed with accessibility in mind from the brand new kitchen (with its adjustable worktops) to the wet floor shower room and disabled toilets to the ramps allowing access to the entrance and garden. Clients now also find it easier to get from the bus into the centre.
"Outside our new patio area means that visitors can spend time outside in a safe, enclosed area to enjoy the weather."
Councillor Tim Brett, Strategic Chair of the Social Work and Health Committee said: "Fife Council has made a commitment to targeting support to vulnerable people. The refurbishment of St David's demonstrates our commitment to improving services and facilities for people in Fife. We have just started a Best Value Review of day care services in Fife which will help shape the future direction of services in Fife."
