Staff and pupils at The Edinburgh Academy Junior School joined Dunne Building and Civil Engineering on Friday September 19 to celebrate the completion of the new £2m nursery and after-school facility.
The main contractor, part of Bathgate-based Dunne Group, delivered the complete design and build of the new development, which will form an integral part of the Junior School campus on the capital's Arboretum Road, Inverleith.
The new modern flexible facility comprises a large ground floor with four classrooms and a partial first floor which houses an after school club for infants and children from the Junior School. The development is complemented by fully landscaped gardens and an external play area.
Director of Dunne, Patrick Reel, said: "Throughout the design and development phases we have worked closely with The Edinburgh Academy to create a modern building which will provide a stimulating and welcoming environment for staff and pupils.
Head teacher, Caroline Bashford, said: "We have been very much looking forward to the completion of the nursery and after school facility which will enable us to provide a modern, flexible environment for the 420 children from the nursery and Junior School who will benefit from this state of the art development. It can be very challenging for contractors to work on a site with very young children nearby, but the Dunne Group have been exemplary in their practice."
Works on the new signature building, designed by Richard Murphy Architects, include a steel frame structure with traditional cavity wall outer build.
A Sarnafil membrane roof covers the whole building and contains a line of mono pitch roof lights which illuminates the resource area.
