Mayfield Construction is celebrating after winning a prestigious BALI Award.
The company, which is a division of The McKean Group, was selected as a BALI (British Association of Landscape Industry), National Hard Landscaping Award Winner 2008, in the category of mainly hard landscaping to a value of £1.5m, for work undertaken at the Town Hall Square in Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.
The £766,000 project provided a new look town centre which focused on enhancing the environment of the core town centre through a series of contemporary, forward looking improvements to the streetscape and the public realm. The excavation and refurbishment of Townhall Square encompassed works in granite, sandstone paving, setts, street furniture, artwork and lighting, with the main square in Blackburn town centre completely repaved.
This is the fourth BALI Award for Mayfield. David Noar, Managing Director of McKean Group, said: "This award demonstrates our strength and expertise in the hard landscaping field. It is a privilege to be recognised by such a prestigious association and the team at Mayfield should be very proud of their hard work and dedication to this project.
"We are very pleased to have been selected for this award. Most rewarding is that this demonstrates our continued commitment to quality following our equally successful year last year with a similar award for the Focal Point scheme in St. Helens. This scheme is another benchmark for all our companies and divisions to aspire to. We are focused on quality, delivery and health and safety and we will continue to produce high quality landscaping projects for all our clients."
The annual BALI National Landscape Awards showcase the high levels of professionalism attained by members of the British Association of Landscape Industries. First introduced in 1976 to acknowledge professionalism and best practice in the landscape industry, the awards event has grown over the years to become the largest and most prestigious event in the industry, attracting interest from across the world.
The McKean Group was established in Glasgow nearly 100 years ago as McKean & Renwick, Railway and Public Works Contractors. In its early stages, the company quickly began work on projects throughout the country, building roads, bridges, dams and canals. Contracts such as the widening of the Oban road at the pass of Brander - a point where the road extends over Loch Awe - and the construction of Firhill Stadium, home of Partick Thistle Football Club, ensured that the company developed a reputation for undertaking complex contracts to high standards.
