Full Steam Ahead For UK's First Eco Housing Fair

The Board of the Highland Housing Fair, the UK's first eco housing fair planned for Inverness in August 2009, has moved the event to 2010.

The Fair aims to showcase 55 architecturally designed eco-homes, based on a model found in Finland and mainland Europe, which has been established for over 40 years.

The aim is to show what can be achieved by good house design, innovation, and by giving ordinary people that need it most, a vision for future living.

Around 40% of the fair homes will be affordable, with the remaining 60% available for sale on the free market. The houses have been designed by 27 of Scotland's leading architects, working in partnership with developers in Scotland, to ensure the build of the houses.

Councillor Jean Urquhart, Chairman of the Highland Housing Fair, said: "The board has decided to reschedule the Fair. This is a hugely complex development involving many partners and it is absolutely essential that we get it right. It is the first of its kind and we hope the first of many.

"This project is the most exciting event of a generation. We have decided to move the event as it is vital that the timing is right, not only for the Highland Housing Fair but for the industry it will depend upon. Making this change will result in a much stronger event to showcase good design and energy efficiency in building.

"This will ensure the event will be a springboard for the future of housing both within Scotland, and the UK as a whole."
