Contracts, healthcare and interiors specialist akp has been awarded a £7.76m contract, the largest financial award in the company's 14 year history, consolidating its business targets for 2008/2009.
The company has been appointed by NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde to construct a new two storey gynaecology unit and associated works on behalf of Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
The unit will include two operating theatres, two anaesthetic rooms, wards, consulting rooms and offices.
In addition, to the new build element, existing buildings will be internally refurbished to create a four storey building on completion which will also include the installation of three new water microfiltration units and water tanks within the existing plant room.
Ian McEwan, Managing Director, who founded the privately owned business said: "One of the first jobs akp ever delivered was in healthcare, for Gartnavel hospital and over the years we have continued to work on various projects for the sector which has provided us with a real understanding of exactly what is required and the framework in which these organisations work.
"We really are very excited at this award and it is the culmination of a lot of preparation work. It also comes on the back of other new business awards which means that we have already secured a strong platform for growth for next year."
Work has already started on site at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and is scheduled for completion at the end of August 2009.
akp operates three divisions, namely contracts, interiors and healthcare.
Previous healthcare contracts akp has undertaken include the £7.2m contract to create one of the UK's largest specialist heart and lung centres at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Clydebank and more recently the company was appointed by the Nuffield Hospital in Glasgow's West End to refurbish the Assisted Conception System Unit.
The Royal Infirmary contract was awarded in a competitive process.
