Isobel Sharp, President of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland in 2007-2008, has been appointed as a Visiting Professor in the Business School and Economics department at the University of Edinburgh.
Sobel, a graduate of the University, is Technical Partner at Deloitte, London, where she specialises in financial reporting, company law and corporate governance matters. Her role at the University will involve teaching undergraduates and postgraduates and advising on research projects. Her track record in major research projects goes back more than two decades when she played a major role in the seminal publication, 'Making Corporate Reports Valuable'.
Isobel is currently a member of the International Accounting Standards Board's Working Group on Accounting by Private Entities and a member of the European Joint (EFRAG and FEE) Group on SMEs.
She has served on the UK's Accounting Standards Board (ASB) and the Financial Reporting Review Panel. She also served on working parties of the Auditing Practices Board and the Professional Oversight Board.
Isobel said: "I have many happy memories of the University as a student, so to come back and be allowed to contribute as a Visiting Professor is both a thrill and an honour. Financial reporting and corporate governance are subjects that have always been important and will continue to be so. In recent years I have been involved in teaching CA students at ICAS, which is both challenging and rewarding. I am therefore particularly looking forward to working with that younger generation at the University."
Welcoming Isobel's appointment, ICAS Chief Executive, Anton Colella said: "This honour recognises Isobel's significant contribution to accountancy throughout her successful career. Her ideas continue to help shape the profession for the better and I am delighted that students at the University which she herself attended will benefit from her enthusiasm and intelligence."
