Main contractor Miller Construction has completed phase one of the £250m Union Square development in Aberdeen.
The landmark development, spanning 700,000 sq ft, will be one of the biggest city-centre retail-led regeneration schemes in Scotland.
Phase one of the contract for Hammerson included building a new Network Rail ticket office; demolishing the old bus station and building a new and modern bus station; creating a new road layout into the new bus station; and relocating the existing WH Smith retail unit.
Brian McQuade, Joint Managing Director, Miller Construction, said: "We are pleased with the completion of phase one which is a vital part of the Union Square development.
"The new transport hub will be integrated with Union Square making the development easily accessible to those travelling to and from Aberdeen by train or bus, which will be hugely beneficial for all parties.'
Miller Construction has already started work on phase two, which will comprise the retail element, as well as a 203-bed hotel.
The construction firm has completed enabling works and is currently putting the structural steel in place.
Guy Wells, Development Manager for Hammerson, said: "When complete, Union Square will become an integral part of Aberdeen's city centre landscape and offer a unique blend of retail and leisure facilities, making it a destination of choice for people from Aberdeen city, the Shire and beyond."
Union Square will open in autumn 2009.
