Following recent funding cuts in Aberdeen, the First Minister for Scotland, Alex Salmond has shown his support for one of the causes affected.

Mr Salmond addressed an audience of business leaders at the Cyrenians' 40th anniversary business dinner.

The 40th anniversary dinner was attended by companies and individuals from across the city and shire including 10 individuals from one of Scotland's most successful networking business groups: BNI Bravo, which is based in Aberdeen.


The event is the first that the organisation has held since the cuts were announced and it raised around £20,000 on the night which will contribute to the organisation's work with vulnerable local people who are experiencing homelessness.

Beginning as a small soup run in 1968 the Cyrenians has grown to support around 2,500 people every year. 2008 marks their 40th year of providing this support.

Cyrenians' Fundraising Manager, Amy Grant said "The event was fantastic. The guests seemed to really enjoy themselves and it was a real pleasure to have the First Minister there. I am delighted that the event raised £20,000."

The event was also supported by Jenna Cameron, a young singer who entertained guests during the drink's reception with a selection of ballads.
