Jo Goodgame, Abertay Housing Association's first chief executive has announced her retirement after ten years at the helm.
The Association was established in 1997 having purchased its stock from Scottish Homes and Jo had the onerous task of converting a public organisation into a private company. Jo led the Association from inception with a business plan that was less than robust, into the thriving association that it is today and who are in a strong position to help the Scottish Government and Local Councils in achieving their housing objectives.
The 'Abertay Team' has won national awards during Jo's tenure - including the regeneration award from the Scottish Urban Regeneration Forum, the Committee Member of the Year Award and most recently the Staff Member of the Year from the SFHA.
Jo's commitment to providing a wider service to the community has led to Abertay providing the residents in their local area of Fintry with a free crèche, youth club, training opportunities and free legal advice. Those in the community requiring extra help or support were foremost when considering new development opportunities.
Tenants have given Jo and her team a vote of confidence with 86% of their tenants being satisfied with the service. Financially keeping the organisation running within the limited rent rises set by government and at the same time finding enough additional money to bring the houses up to the Scottish Housing Quality Standard has been a major achievement during Jo's stewardship.
Finding her way though stormy waters over the past ten years has been good preparation for Jo however as she intends spending her retirement time at sea in her yacht. Additionally Jo has a small grandchild that will require a baby sitter and Jo will no doubt now have the time to spoil her.
Committee, staff and associates of Abertay wished Jo well in her retirement during a recent retirement reception held to mark the occasion in the city's Apex Hotel.
