Kirkbride Farm Holiday Cottages Achieve Five Star Accolade

The Dundrum self catering cottage in Dumfries & Galloway has officially been crowned one of the best self catering establishments in Scotland with a five star accolade.

As part of the Kirkbride Farm Holiday Cottages, The Dundrum has become the first self catering property in Dumfries & Galloway to achieve this prestigious award. Situated in the heart of Kirkbride Farm near Port Logan, The Dundrum has demonstrated the necessary world class standards in the luxury cottage to achieve the coveted five star status.

VisitScotland assesses the standard of accommodation throughout Scotland. A five star grading means The Dundrum has the highest of standards for hospitality, service, cleanliness, accommodation and comfort.

Owners, Aileen and Matthew Caughie recognise the importance of creating a relaxed atmosphere and going that extra mile to not only meet visitor expectations but also exceeding them.

Aileen said: "We're delighted that we have achieved world class status with the award of five stars. We know that relaxation time is precious and that's why we aim to look after our guests to the highest standards and make their stay here as carefree as possible; it's the little things we do that can make all the difference.

"Dumfries & Galloway has a whole host of things to see and do, after a long day exploring the region what better place to relax and unwind than at The Dundrum.

To gain a Quality Assurance (QA) award, businesses are assessed once every two years by a Quality Advisor who has considerable experience in tourism. The QA Scheme year runs from August each year to July the next and during each visit, the grading assessment is not only made but information and advice is available from the quality advisor.

Sandi Hellowell, VisitScotland Regional Director, said: "This is excellent news for Aileen and Matthew and for Dumfries & Galloway. With this five star award The Dundrum cottage becomes one of the top places to stay in the country.

"Exceeding visitor expectations, leaving them feeling there is more to do, and going that extra mile to make visitors feel they are always welcome is key for us to achieve ambitions of increasing tourism spend by 50% by 2015; this coupled with a wide choice of quality establishments such as The Dundrum stands us in an excellent position."

Sandi Hellowell has been appointed Regional Director for VisitScotland. She will be the main point of contact at regional and local level with key partners in Dumfries & Galloway, Ayrshire & Arran and the Scottish Borders.
