Commenting on the announcement Michael Levack, Chief Executive of the Scottish Building Federation, who speaks on behalf of the construction industry, said: "Today's announcement is a welcome step in the right direction towards re-igniting public sector investment in Scotland. Such investment is crucial to Scotland's construction industry and provides the stability employers require to spend on apprenticeships, training and skills.

"The challenge now for Government and industry is to turn these new ideas into new projects. For our part, the construction industry welcomes the opportunity to work with Ministers to develop these proposals over the coming weeks. We are eager to get on with the job of building the new schools and hospitals needed across Scotland."
Mr Levack, who attended the conference where the announcement was made, added: "The proposed Scottish Futures Trust builds on the experience of previous non profit-distributing models and is welcome recognition of the positive contribution the private sector can offer. However, before any cement is poured or any investment made, the private sector will need further assurances about the return it can expect and who exactly will shoulder the risk."
