A £100,000 land deal will help create 50 jobs in Paisley and lead to the construction of a new £10m office complex for Barr Ltd, the construction, civil engineering and waste management firm.
Renfrewshire Council has agreed to sell Barr Ltd a half-acre plot (0.21 hectares) of land next to its existing premises in Inchinnan Road, Paisley. The new structure will replace the current temporary accommodation and secure 120 local jobs.
Councillor Allan Noon, convener of Renfrewshire Council's general management and finance policy board, said: "This deal will potentially mean new jobs for Paisley and a massive investment in the town by one of our foremost companies.
"Regenerating Paisley is one of the council's most important goals and increased investment and employment by companies like Barr Ltd are an important source of income for the local economy."
A spokesman for Barr Ltd said: "We will soon be applying for planning permission for the offices. The first office block should be available for occupation within 12 months of the start of construction. When both office blocks are complete, it is anticipated that up to 400 people in total will be employed on the premises.
"We will have made a major contribution to the area following our original move on to the site in the early 1990's with 10 staff. We regard this development as another positive sign of the excellent long term co-operation and business relationship between Barr Ltd and Renfrewshire Council."
