Three Hurt In Govan Crane Snap

The Health and Safety Executive have launched an investigation after three men where injured when an 80-tonne crane jib snapped at a Govan shipyard yesterday.

One man is being treated in hospital for minor injuries while the two other men were treated for shock.

A spokesperson for BAE Systems, the operators of the shipyard, said: "The Health and Safety Executive was notified immediately and will investigate the incident with the full support of the business.

"At this time our priority is the safety and well-being of our employees and until the investigation has been completed it would be inappropriate to discuss the potential cause of the incident."

It has been confirmed that the crane passed its annual statutory inspection in March.

Around 1,500 people are employed at the River Clyde shipyard.
