Spending plans for the refurbishment of Bannockburn High School have been agreed by members of Stirling Council's Executive committee.

Over £8 million will be spent upgrading the school over the next three years to bring it up to a standard similar to Stirling's other high schools which have either been rebuilt or refurbished under the PPP programme.

All areas of the school will be upgraded and a new school entrance will be created. Improved sports facilities will include a new all weather pitch.


Councillor Graham Lambie, executive member with portfolio for Children's Services, said: "Bannockburn High School is 30 years old and it's only right that this school should be brought up to the same standards as the rest of Stirling's high schools. The refurbishment of this school will provide an inspiring learning and teaching environment that meets the needs of pupils and teachers."

To ensure minimum disruption the work will be phased over three years and projects going ahead this financial year will include the upgrading of the toilet facilities and the replacement of windows as well as the new sports pitch.

The refurbishment will be designed to satisfy all building regulations and will endeavour to reduce the carbon footprint of the building. The main contract will be tendered later this year with plans to start in April 2009 and be completed by March 2011.
