£8.5m Regeneration For Port Glasgow's Oronsay Estate

Tenants in Port Glasgow's Oronsay estate are planning a fresh start for their area with 70 new homes for rent and low cost home ownership.

Park Farm Tenants and Residents Association is working with River Clyde Homes and Hypostyle Architects to explore options for the area as part of an £8.5m regeneration project.

Work on the new build development, which is expected to include a mix of two, three and four-bedroom back and front door homes, is expected to start early next year. Local residents have already been involved in the first stage of community consultation about the new homes.

River Clyde Homes arranged for a tour of sites in Central Scotland to look at good examples of new homes. Residents viewed estate layouts, the environment and internal and external features of new homes to help them contribute to the design process for Oronsay.

River Clyde Homes' Head of Regeneration, Angela Spence, said: "River Clyde Homes is fully committed to community involvement in our new build projects. It's great to see so many of the local residents getting actively involved in their community and the exciting new housing proposals. This will help make sure that plans are sensible and that what is built meets long term local needs."

The Tenants and Residents Association has set up a regeneration sub group to take the plans for the area forward. The group met with River Clyde Homes on Tuesday to review progress and move consultation on to the next phase.

The announcement means River Clyde Homes has now secured site capacity for 315 new homes, less than five month's into its role as Scotland's newest social landlord. This represents more than one third (37%) of its 850-unit new-build programme.

Chief Executive of River Clyde Homes, Karen Neary, said: "Our new build programme will make a real difference to local people bring much needed improvements in housing quality. We will continue to look at other sites where we can add to the programme."
