Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) tenants in Wellpark and Dennistoun will soon be celebrating the re-opening of their community hall which has just undergone a £70,000 refurbishment.
GHA has contributed £50,000 and Glasgow Community Planning Partnership £20,000 to the project which has given the centre a new lease of life, including the provision of brand new toilet facilities, an upgraded kitchen, a revamped hall and new equipment. Work started in January and took three months to complete.
A whole host of activities will be on offer at the open day, including arts and crafts, play activities, a bouncy castle, bingo and stalls set up by Strathclyde Police, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service, Strathclyde Pension Service amongst others. In addition, fruit will be handed out to attendees as part of a healthy eating initiative.
Margaret Crawley, Community Housing Manager for Keystone Tenant Managed Homes Ltd Local Housing Organisation (LHO), who manages the homes on behalf of GHA said: "The community centre had suffered great disrepair, yet there was still a real need for this provision in our area. That's why GHA was keen to help fund the refurbishment and contribute to the organisation of the official launch event."
Margaret Wallace, Tenant Chair of Keystone Tenant Managed Homes Ltd LHO added: "We are confident that the residents of Wellpark and Dennistoun will benefit greatly from this fantastic facility."
