Perthshire Housing Association has launched a new project that aims to boost affordable housing in the area.

The association has successfully negotiated deals with Barratt North Scotland and Persimmon Homes that allows potential home-buyers to secure a stake in the property. It is being promoted under the Scottish Government's shared equity scheme.

The move will mean a boost for home-buyers at the Crieff Road development and on the site of the former ground of Perth junior football club, Jeanfield Swifts.


Alison Crook, development director with the association said that the initative is designed to assist low-income families "break into the overheated home ownership market".

She added: "Day in, day out, we are confronted with people unable to find affordable property in Perth. By promoting such schemes, we are providing that vital first foot on the ladder."

Anne McCallum, housing team leader with the association, said: "The scheme is targeted at first-time buyers, existing council or housing association tenants, disabled people who need a suitable homes and some other groups."
