Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has today unveiled an initial £300 million funding package, allocated through Great British Energy ahead of the Spending Review, to bolster supply chains for the burgeoning offshore wind sector.

The funding will be made available through a grant application process, open to companies demonstrating their commitment to long-term investments within UK-based supply chains. The announcement was made in London, ahead of the International Summit on the Future of Energy Security, hosted jointly by the UK Government and the International Energy Agency.

Claire Mack, Chief Executive of Scottish Renewables, warmly welcomed the news: "This new funding announced today is a welcome boost for Scotland's offshore wind sector which is central to our clean power future. Industry has repeatedly called for strategic ahead-of-time investment in domestic supply chains to ensure the economic benefits of offshore wind are captured in Scotland. Making these investments now across our diverse range of ports, manufacturers and suppliers will deliver the green industrial growth and high-skilled jobs we all want to secure. However, the value of these investments will only be realised through sustained project activity across Scotland's unrivalled offshore wind pipeline. Developers and supply chains are working together to identify where funding of this scale can help to deliver a strong return for the country."


The funding is anticipated to provide a significant stimulus for Scottish ports, manufacturers, and suppliers involved in the offshore wind industry, fostering green industrial growth and creating high-skilled employment opportunities. However, Ms Mack emphasised that the full benefits of this investment will depend on sustained project development within Scotland's extensive offshore wind pipeline. Collaboration between developers and supply chain partners will be crucial in identifying how this substantial funding can be most effectively deployed to generate strong economic returns for the nation.
