JR Scaffold Provides Bespoke Access For Reservoir Refurbishment

Construction News Image
JR Scaffold has successfully completed a uniquely challenging project at the Touch Water Treatment facility near Cambusbarron, Stirlingshire, providing essential access for refurbishment works.

The specialist scaffolding firm designed and erected intricate scaffolding around two pipe bridges to support a 10-week programme of repairs and refurbishment to the structures' paintwork and fabric on behalf of civil engineering contractor George Leslie and Scottish Water.

The logistically complex project saw JR Scaffold tackle the pipe bridges situated near the four reservoirs at the remote Touch Hill facility. Client George Leslie facilitated the transport of materials by constructing new access roads to the reservoirs, enabling the JR Scaffold team, led by Contracts Director John Jack, to undertake the installation.

The erection of the scaffolding around each bridge was carried out by a team of three experienced scaffolders, taking approximately two weeks per bridge due to the exceptional nature of the job and the remote location. For one of the bridges, JR Scaffold collaborated closely with pontoon specialists Coastworks. A pontoon was utilised over the water to serve as a working platform, allowing the team to install the designed beam work to the underside of the structure. Access to the second bridge was achieved directly from the nearby embankment, ensuring both bridges were fully encased in the scaffolding framework to facilitate the necessary refurbishment works.

John Jack, Contracts Director at JR Scaffold, commented: "Due to the remote location and unusual shape of the pipe bridges above water, this was a fascinating project to work on and complete but one we had some relevant experience in so was great to work on. We're thrilled to see that this was another successful project with our friends at George Leslie and we hope we can continue our great working relationship with them for a long time."
