Network Rail is now accepting applications for its 2025 apprenticeship programme, seeking to recruit 38 apprentices to help operate, maintain, and renew Scotland’s railway infrastructure.

The three-year course, starting in August 2025, is open to individuals from all backgrounds, including school leavers and those looking for a career change. Successful applicants will earn an SCQF Level 7 engineering qualification.

Apprentices are needed at various locations across Scotland, including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Inverness, Irvine, Paisley, Motherwell, Montrose, Crianlarich, and Helmsdale.

Network Rail Scotland is responsible for nearly 3,000 miles of track, over 14,000 bridges, tunnels, and other structures, and owns 366 stations. The company facilitates the movement of approximately 2,500 trains daily and invests around £1 billion annually in operating, maintaining, and renewing infrastructure across Scotland.
