Public Consultation On Clean Energy Connections To Netherton Hub

Construction News Image
People living in the Peterhead area are invited to attend public consultation events to discuss plans for new electricity network connections to the proposed Netherton Hub. The Hub, a strategic development west of Peterhead, will support national energy security and clean power targets.

The events will focus on plans for a new overhead line tie-in between the Netherton Hub and the existing New Deer-Peterhead 400kV overhead line, as well as the removal and rebuild of a section of the overhead line between the Hub and the Peterhead 400kV substation in Boddam.

SSEN Transmission staff will also provide information on a proposed underground cable route between the Netherton Hub and Sandford Bay, part of the Eastern Green Link 3 (EGL3) project, which will establish a new subsea High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) link between Peterhead and Lincolnshire.

The drop-in events will be held on Wednesday, March 5th, at:

• 10:00 am – 12:30 pm, Buchan Braes Hotel, Boddam, Peterhead, AB42 3AR

• 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Longside Parish Church Hall, Inn brae, Longside, AB42 4XN

The proposed Netherton Hub is a crucial part of SSEN Transmission's £20 billion investment to upgrade the electricity transmission network in northern Scotland. It will include two new substations and two new HVDC converter stations to support onshore and offshore clean energy projects.

"The proposed Netherton Hub is a key development that will support the delivery of clean, renewable energy to homes and businesses across the UK and play a major role in helping meet national clean energy and energy security ambitions," said Gillian Doig, Community Liaison Manager for SSEN Transmission.

"We know that people are keen to understand more about local connections to the Hub, and these drop-in consultation events will provide an opportunity for people to comment on our proposals to install a new tie-in to our existing New Deer-Peterhead overhead line, as well as plans to rebuild a section of the line. We will also be sharing details of plans to install an underground cable between the Hub and Sandford Bay as part of the EGL3 project," Doig added. "We'd encourage anyone with an interest in our proposals to come along to these events, where our specialist project staff will be available to speak about our plans in more detail."
