North Lanarkshire Council has published plans to improve an area of woodland at Cambusnethan Local Nature Reserve.
The project will focus on restoring approximately 10 hectares of woodland surrounding Hall Gill, a steeply sloping gorge.
Over the next five years, the management plan will see the adjustment of tree species to create a more natural and diverse woodland environment. This will involve the felling of some existing trees to encourage natural regeneration and create a more varied canopy.
"This work is part of a project to compensate for part of the SAC which was affected by essential repairs to protect the operational safety of the railway carried out by Network Rail on the West Coast Main Line, following a landslip in 2016," stated the council.
The council has published details of the planned work on its website and is inviting public feedback on the proposals.
The project aims to enhance the biodiversity of the woodland and make it more resilient to climate change, while also creating a more attractive location for residents to enjoy.
"In time, the aim is that changes will allow the woodland to become part of the Clyde Valley Woods Special Area of Conservation (SAC) which covers 11 separate sites in North and South Lanarkshire and is of European importance for nature conservation," the council stated.
