Hillington West Station To Undergo £2.9m Platform Renewal

Construction News Image
Network Rail engineers are set to begin a £2.9 million project to renew both platforms at Hillington West station on the Glasgow – Paisley railway line.

Both platforms, which are 190 metres long, have reached the end of their service life and will be demolished and rebuilt with improved surfacing and drainage.

Platform 1 will be closed for just over three months, from 16th February to 18th May, while engineers carry out the work. Platform 2 will then be closed for a similar period, from 18th May to 17th August.

"This vital work to renew worn-out infrastructure that's reached the end of its life will help us to run a safe and reliable railway," said Ashley McDonald, scheme project manager for Network Rail Scotland. "We know there's never a good time to close a station platform, and we're grateful to passengers and our neighbours for their patience while this vital improvement work takes place."

Passengers are advised to use the nearby Hillington East station during the platform closures.

The station footbridge will remain open during the day, however, some overnight closures will be necessary to allow engineers to work safely.

This project follows the ongoing refurbishment of Platform 1 at Alexandra Parade station, which includes the installation of new lighting and CCTV. Work at Alexandra Parade is expected to be completed in May 2025.
