SELECT Highlight Neutral Current Diversion Risks

Construction News Image
SELECT, the electrical contracting trade association, has released an in-depth guidance video to raise awareness of the dangers of Neutral Current Diversion (NCD).

The video, produced in partnership with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), provides a step-by-step guide to identifying and addressing NCD.

"NCD constitutes an unknown risk that has huge safety implications, so we are keen to equip electrical contractors with the necessary knowledge to identify it and take action where necessary," said Bob Cairney, Director of Technical Services at SELECT.

The 20-minute resource, now available on the SELECT YouTube channel, explains how NCD occurs when protective measures fail, allowing current to divert via exposed metal fixings such as gas, water, and oil pipes. This can lead to a build-up of heat, potentially resulting in fire or explosion.

Presented by Steven Devine and Darren Sweeney, the video aims to provide electrical contractors with the knowledge and tools to safely identify and address NCD.

This initiative is part of SELECT's ongoing campaign to raise awareness of NCD, which coincides with the organisation's 125th anniversary.
