Glasgow City Council And 3Ci Advance Net Zero Neighbourhood Pilot
Glasgow City Council and 3Ci have begun further development work on Glasgow's Net Zero Neighbourhood programme, focusing on Govanhill as a pilot project.
This collaboration aims to create an actionable investment case for Govanhill, attracting private funding for decarbonisation projects in the area.
3Ci's Net Zero Neighbourhood model focuses on integrating local Net Zero projects, such as transforming transportation, energy, housing, and waste services, to create an attractive investment proposition for investors. This includes a focus on blended finance models and a program of technical assistance to ensure projects are investment-grade.
Govanhill, with its diverse built environment, green spaces, and proximity to district heating network opportunities, was selected as a pilot case for the Net Zero Neighbourhoods initiative due to its significant potential for decarbonisation.
"Innovative approaches to Net Zero can make an incredible impact on the lives of residents in neighbourhoods like Govanhill," said Councillor Susan Aitken, Leader of Glasgow City Council. "We are firmly committed to this next phase of work with 3Ci to explore new opportunities around heating, retrofitting and reducing carbon emissions and the benefits these bring to the everyday lives of citizens."
Steve Turner, Director of 3Ci, stated: "When it comes to exploring new paths to Net Zero, Glasgow has been a UK-leading innovator from the start. Their commitment to further developing Govanhill as a pilot case for Net Zero investment showcases the strength and determination of Glasgow City Council to reach their decarbonisation targets."
This next phase of the programme will involve exploring innovations required to transform Govanhill into a Net Zero Neighbourhood, including domestic retrofitting, electric vehicle infrastructure, and the development of district heating networks. The objective is to create a compelling investment case that will attract private capital and deliver significant decarbonisation benefits for the community.
