Cumbrae Community Council Unveils Local Place Plan
Cumbrae Community Council has unveiled its own Local Place Plan, a community-led vision for the future development of the island.
The plan, which was approved by North Ayrshire Council's Planning Committee, outlines the community's aspirations for the development and use of land on Cumbrae.
Local Place Plans encourage community involvement in the planning process, allowing residents to directly influence the future of their area. By setting out local priorities for development, these plans can guide future decision-making and support community-led projects.
Cumbrae Community Council engaged extensively with the local community through online surveys, consultations, and emails to gather input for the plan. They also consulted with key stakeholders, including Police Scotland, HM Coastguard, and the Field Studies Council, to ensure a comprehensive understanding of local perspectives.
"We are currently working on our third Local Development Plan and it's important that we get as much support and input from our communities as possible," said Councillor Alan Hill, Cabinet member for Islands and Communities. "The Local Place Plans are a new concept but will be invaluable and feed into our Local Development Plans. I would like to pay tribute to the work done by Cumbrae Community Council in preparing their Place Plan. The high level of community engagement and feedback both in person and online was absolutely incredible and confirms the Cumbrae Place Plan as an exemplar for other communities to follow."
The approved Cumbrae Place Plan will now be considered in the preparation of North Ayrshire Council's Local Development Plan, which outlines the strategic framework for future development across the council area.
