SSEN Publishes Kintore to Tealing 400kV Overhead Line Final Report
SSEN Transmission has today published its final Report on Consultation for a proposed new 400kV overhead line running from Kintore in Aberdeenshire to Tealing in Angus.
The report outlines the final overhead line alignment being taken forward to Section 37 Consent submission, reflecting changes made in response to extensive community and stakeholder feedback received throughout the consultation process.
The proposed new overhead line is a key part of SSEN Transmission's £20 billion "Pathway to 2030" investment program, which aims to upgrade the transmission network across the north of Scotland and support the country's energy security and clean power ambitions.
"We have carried out what we believe to be one of the biggest public consultation exercises with local communities and other stakeholders, throughout the development of this project, that this area has ever seen," said Calum Grant, Senior Development Project Manager. "We would like to thank all those who have taken the time to provide the constructive feedback that has helped to shape our proposals."
Key changes to the project in response to feedback include:
• Relocation of the proposed new substation: The substation, previously planned for Fiddes in the Mearns, has been relocated to Hurlie in Fetteresso Forest.
• Revised overhead line alignments: Changes have been made to the line's route in several areas, including around Drumoak and Echt in Aberdeenshire and around Careston in Angus.
SSEN Transmission will host a series of public engagement events in February and March to present the final alignment plans to the community.
The Pathway to 2030 program is expected to create and support thousands of jobs in the region and deliver over £100 million in community benefit funding. The company has also pledged to support the delivery of more than 1,000 new homes across the region as a legacy of its workforce accommodation requirements during construction.
