Scotland's first floating solar power system, located at Forth Ports HQ in the Port of Leith, successfully weathered Storm Éowyn, described by the Met Office as "probably the strongest to hit the UK in the past 10 years".

Despite hurricane-strength winds and widespread disruption caused by the storm, the Nova floating solar array continued to generate clean, reliable electricity.


The demonstrator has now faced over a dozen named storms since 2023, with Storm Éowyn representing its most severe test to date. The system has maintained 100% availability throughout these extreme weather events, demonstrating the robust design of Nova's floating solar technology.

As climate change increases the frequency of extreme weather, the resilience of renewable energy technologies becomes increasingly crucial. This successful performance further solidifies Nova's position as a leader in the development of clean, secure, and cost-effective floating solar power stations.
