Clark Contracts has completed a £1 million refurbishment of a disused space at the Hugh Fraser Retirement Estate in Newton Mearns, transforming it into a new community hub.

The project involved the refurbishment of three disused spaces and a community café within Crookfur House, creating a valuable resource for the local community. The new hub will provide a range of services and support for residents of the estate and the wider community, including disability and health support groups, exercise classes, craft groups, film nights, quizzes, and indoor bowls.

The refurbishment was supported by a £200,000 grant from the UK Government's Community Ownership Fund, with additional funding provided by The Hugh Fraser Foundation, the bp foundation, East Renfrewshire Council, Garfield Weston Foundation, B&Q Foundation, and NEXT.

"We are delighted to have delivered yet another project within the Hugh Fraser Retirement Estate for Retail Trust," said Gordon Cunningham, Managing Director at Clark Contracts. "We hope that this new facility will be enjoyed by the residents and local community."

The new community hub will be utilized by a number of community organisations, including Voluntary Action, Age Concern, and Talking Points East Renfrewshire.

This project demonstrates the positive impact that community-focused developments can have on local communities.
