Energy Performance Certificates To Be Revised And Updated
Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) are set to undergo significant revisions to provide homeowners with a clearer picture of their home's energy performance and to align with the drive to reduce emissions from buildings.
Proposed changes include the introduction of a new rating system that will more accurately reflect a property's fabric energy efficiency, heating system efficiency and running costs, and the overall cost of energy.
The format of the EPCs will also be redesigned for improved readability and understanding. Furthermore, the validity period of EPCs will be reduced from ten to five years to ensure homeowners have access to more up-to-date information.
Alasdair Allan, Acting Minister for Climate Action, said: "Energy Performance Certificates are a crucial source of information for homeowners and potential purchasers. By improving the EPC, we can provide everyone with a clearer understanding of the actual energy efficiency of their home."
These revisions reflect feedback from various stakeholders, including consumer organisations, the Climate Change Committee, and industry representatives. The changes are also in line with similar updates being implemented in other parts of the UK and across Europe.
